Bonanno was appointed to the Livermore City Council in January 2021 to fill the seat vacated by Bob Woerner when he was elected Mayor. Previously, Bonanno served on the Livermore Planning Commission from 2015 until appointed to the Council in 2021.

• While a Planning Commissioner, Bonanno voted in 2018 to approve the Legacy Apartments project.
